The clowns and the Signal Chat
Last week we were told that a group of Trump’s administration had a little chat using the Signal app, and talked about an upcoming military strike against the Houthis in Yemen that took place hours later. In that chat they included National Security Advisor Waltz, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, a user called “TG” in the Signal chat appears to be Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and other Trump administration officials, and, for some reason Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg who reported the chat.
Of course, having Jefferey Goldberg in the chat was a mistake, as was holding the conversation in the Signal App which is not exactly a secure way of messaging how a military strike was going to happen. This has caused an uproar by non-MAGA, but Trump and MAGA at first said it was fake news put out by a liberal traitor, then they said it was Goldberg’s fault, then they … well, they have done everything but own up to the mistake.
If Trump would have just came out and said it was a mistake to have the chat on Signal, and that steps would be taken to make sure similar mistakes don’t happen in the future, this whole thing would have been forgotten by now. Mostly because Trump likes to have all the attention on him, and you know he would have done or said something stupid within 32 hours to make this story go away.
But of course, that isn’t what Trump does because he, and MAGA believe he is a perfect human and never makes mistakes. The devotion to Trump reminds me of the devotion many Germans and in the 1930’s to a guy named Hitler. And unfortunately Trump is a wannbe dictator, and MAGA actually wants him to succeed.
We can only hope he doesn’t, but at this point I’m beginning to think it’s too late unless the spineless GOP in Congress grow backbones very quickly.
We will see.
However, what really bothers me about this isn’t that it happened, yes people make mistakes, especially when so many members of Trump’s team are former Fox News hosts. The head of the DOD is probably the least qualified Secretary of Defense ever. But hey, he’s new to the job and I would cut him some slack except for one thing, the reaction MAGA would have if this had happened under Biden or Obama, or god forbid if Harris had won the election and her team made this mistake. MAGA members of Congress, Trump himself, his loyal cult members and the right-wing media would be going nuts. Speaking of nuts, can you imagine what Marjorie Taylor Greene would be saying? They would be screaming for someone to be fired and people to resign. YOU KNOW THEY WOULD BE!!
I guess what bothers me most is the hypocrisy of how MAGA is reaction to this under Trump, and what they would be saying on X and Fox News if this had happened under Biden, Obama or Harris.
Can you imagine? I can, and it’s the hypocrisy of this that irritates me the most.
